- You must be 18 years of age to take unarmed security training and to work as unarmed security officer in the state of Illinois. - 20-Hour Unarmed Security Class can be taken online. - IDFPR requires that you apply for PERC - which stands for Permanent Employee Registration Card. This is your license to work in unarmed security in the state of Illinois. Unarmed Security applicants will also have to submit PERC application and pay State of Illinois $55.
