Regulatory Authority • Illinois Department of Financial and Professional Regulation (IDFPR) Purpose Required training for individuals applying for a Permanent Employee Registration Card(PERC) to work as an unarmed security officer in Illinois. Training Hour Requirement • 20 total hours Core Curriculum Topics The course must cover, at minimum: • Role and Responsibilities of Security Officers • Legal Authority and Limitations - Arrest authority (citizen’s arrest) - Use of force limitations • Search and Seizure (Private Security Context) • Report Writing - Incident reports - Logs and documentation • Emergency Procedures - Fire safety - Evacuation protocols • Communication Skills - Verbal de-escalation - Radio procedures • Public Relations / Professional Conduct • Observation and Patrol Techniques Key Compliance Notes • Training must be completed before or shortly after employment depending on employer policy. • No firearms or weapons training is included. • Must align with IDFPR standards to support PERC eligibility.
